why train your dog?

Digging!  Barking!  Chewing!  Jumping!  Dogs behaving badly!  But

from a dog's view of the world, these are perfectly normal,

acceptable doggie behaviors.  No dog automatically knows what

his owner wants.  We have invited dogs into our homes and our

lives and it is up to us to make sure they know what the "house rules"

are.  Yet every year, 40% of dogs turned into shelters are because of

behavior problems----problems that often could have been avoided 

with a bit of knowledge and training.  A dog who knows what is

expected of him can become a well-behaved pet whose family is

happy to include him in their lives.

We train YOU to train your dog by first teaching you how to communicate with him through body

language and vocal cues.  We teach using positive, science-based methods and use only humane

equipment---no choke, pinch, or shock collars.  Harsh equipment and scary tactics can make a timid

dog MORE fearful (possibly triggering fear-based aggression) and it can make an already "pushy"

dog MORE aggressive.  We strive to make our classes fun for the whole family and to make dog

training something you can practice in everyday life.

        I have recently become an evaluator for a brand new training program 

     developed by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers:  C.L.A.S.S. (Canine Living and

     Social Skills) is an educational program designed to promote training focused on 

     the use of of positive reinforcement and to strengthen relationships between 

     humans and their canine companions.  I will also be conducting group classes 

     that will prepare participants to take the C.L.A.S.S. evaluations.  Please visit
